Two-place Process Viscosity System with automatic rinsing. |
Lauda®
Process Viscosity Systems
The Lauda Process Viscosity System (PVS) automatically
measures absolute (kinematic or dynamic), relative, reduced, and intrinsic
viscosities, as well as viscosity index. Start with one capillary, and
then build the system to eight by adding electronic plug-in modules to
the basic electronic interface unit.
A complete viscosity measuring system consists of
Microsoft® Windows®
based software, a computer, an electronic interface unit with plug-in
module(s), viscosity rinsing module(s), constant temperature bath(s),
capillary measuring stand(s), holder(s), and viscosity capillaries.

Features
Automation
- Automatic buret unit(s) and pre-programmed
- Ubbelohde dilution capillariesallow for complete automation
of one to four intrinsic viscosity determinations
- Software captures data and calculates intrinsic viscosityeliminates
tedious, time-consuming manual preparation of different concentrations,
and timed runs for separate samples
Electronic Interface Unit and Plug-in Modules
- Provide the communication link between the computer and up to eight
measuring standseconomical and versatile models available
- A maximum of four multistand modules may be usedeach links one
or two stands
- Both single and multistand measurement systems are available:
- Economical Model PVS 1/1 is ideal for performing a single viscosity
measurement
- Versatile Model PVS 1/2 performs one or two independent measurements
and can be expanded for three to eight independent measurements
- Automatically applies the Hagenbach correction factor when calculating
viscosityeliminates the laminar flow/turbulence problems associated
with manual systems
- Accurately determines viscosity with run times from 60 to 250 secondscompared
to run times between 200 and 300 seconds with manual systems
- Software
- Easy-to-use Microsoft Windows based softwaremonitors and evaluates
data from one to eight measuring stands. Functions include:
- Easy entry of parameters such as capillary size and constant,
number of timed runs per sample, sample identification, and the
permissible deviation in 0.01-second intervals between individual
run times. If run times do not fall within the permissible deviation,
the run is automatically repeated.
- Automatic selection of a capillary from a user-created list by
entering the viscosity range and the desired run time for the measurement.
If the capillary is not in the predefined list, the software indicates
which capillary size to use.
- Monitoring and display of measurement status in real time whether
the capillary is filling or the actual timed measurement is occurring.
Rinsing is indicated separately.
- All measurements and calculated viscosity data can be stored for
export to other programs or LIMS. Information on up to 99 commonly
used capillaries of all types may be stored.

Constant Temperature Baths |
Constant Temperature Baths
- Two types of constant temperature baths are specifically designed
for viscosity and to meetspecifications outlined in ASTM D-445:
- Single-chamber acrylic bath for temperature ranges from 15 to
50°C
- Dual-chamber, insulated, stainless steel bath for highly precise
temperature control from 40 to 200°C
|

Viscosity Rinse Module |
Viscosity Rinse Module
- Automatically cleans and dries one or two capillaries with acidic,
basic, or organic solvents, without removing the capillary from the
holder or the temperature bath
- Capillaries are not handled during washingminimizes the possibility
of breakage
- Small amounts of two different solvents are used for the dual rinse
cycle
- Solvents do not mix during rinsing simplifies recycling

Capillary Measuring Stand
- Contains the microprocessor, sensors, pump, and valves needed to measure
viscosityonce activated by the computer, all functions are performed
by the measuring stand
- Run times are measured by two infrared sensors and a built-in quartz
timer, and are then transmitted to the computer
- Can be used for any capillary (contact Brinkmann Instruments for available
capillaries)
Capillary Holder
- Required for use with measuring stand
- Each type of capillary has a unique holder
