Metrohm® Surfactrode® Electrodes

Metrohm Surfactrode electrodes—specialized electrodes for the analyses of all types of surfactants

Because there is no universal electrode that can perform every type of surfactant analysis, Metrohm offers five Surfactrodes so you can select the Surfactrode that is best suited for your particular application. Whether determining anionic, cationic or nonionic surfactants, or running your analysis in aqueous or in a two-phase medium, Metrohm Surfactrodes get the job done.

Two-phase surfactant titrations

The advantage of using Surfactrodes for two-phase titrations over classic Epton two-phase titrations is that Surfactrodes are resistant to organic solvent—you get the same results with none of the handling issues.

Over the years, Metrohm has become a market leader in the potentiometric analysis of surfactants. In cooperation with Messrs. Th. Goldschmidt AG in Essen, Germany, Metrohm has accumulated a wealth of knowledge that can be found in its Application Bulletins.

Surfactrode Resistant

  • Determination of anionic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Determination of cationic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Cosmetic formulations with fats and oils
  • Industrial oils
  • Resistant to chloroform for classic analysis
  • Works in MIBK
Surfactrode Resistant 6.0507.130

Surfactrode Refill

  • Refillable electrode tip for a “new” electrode when needed
  • Determination of anionic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Determination of cationic surfactants in formulations and raw materials
  • Well suited for powdered detergents and soaps
  • Works with difficult samples that are titrated, where pH is above 10
  • Ideal for high-salt content samples, such as electroplating baths

Aqueous surfactant titrations

These Surfactrodes can handle a wide range of applications—their limited resistance to organic solvents make them best suited for analysis of samples in aqueous environments.

NIO (nonionic) Surfactrode

  • Nonionic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Pharmaceutical compounds
  • Determination of betains
NIO Surfactrode 6.0507.010

Ionic Surfactrode

  • Best suited for anionic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Determination of cationic surfactants in raw materials and formulations
  • Robust solid state design
Ionic Surfactrode 6.0507.120

Cationic Surfactrode

  • Best suited for cationic surfactant determinations in raw materials and formulations
  • Can also be used for anionic determinations
  • Stable and robust solid state design
Cationic Surfactrode 6.0507.150
