Biotrode Electrodes
Biotrode—outstanding features
in a small package
The Metrohm Biotrode (6.0224.100) combination glass electrode brings highly
accurate and quick measurements of a larger electrode system to the realm
of small biological samples.
Applications
- Measurements in very small sample volumes
- Biology/Protein pH measurements
- Biotechnology
- Pharmaceutical
Small diameter
Designed with a 3 mm diameter immersion system, the Biotrode is well suited
for pH measurements in very small volumes down to 60 µl. It can
be easily used in sample vessels with small diameters, such as microplates,
for quick analysis.
Quick and accurate
The Biotrode uses a spherical glass membrane manufactured from a special
low-impedance membrane glass (M Glass) to ensure short response times.
This new electrode also uses the Metrohm “Long Life” reference
system with the Ag/AgCl cartridge; its silver ion barrier ensures an extended
life and consistent measurements.
Designed with biology and proteins in mind
Typically, biological samples—particularly proteins—can be
a problem with pH measurements. The Biotrode reference system uses a new
electrolyte called “Idrolyte,” a specialized viscous electrolyte
based on a glycerol and aqueous KCl solution. Idrolyte helps to reduce
the denaturing of the proteins in the sample. With its viscous nature,
it also reduces any streaming potentials, allowing the Biotrode to be
used with a sample that is stirring.
New
trouble-free diaphragm design
Unique to the Biotrode is its new platinum diaphragm. This new system
consists of plied platinum that acts as a bundle of capillaries and replaces
the troublesome fritted glass diaphragm. The smooth platinum surface also
greatly reduces deposits on the outside of the diaphragm. |
